Arriving at the Pont-du-Gard, you are immediately astonished by the sheer scale and beauty of the ancient bridge. As you approach, you see that it is possible to walk across the first level, just as the Romans would have over two thousand years ago.

In awe of Roman ingenuity and craftsmanship, you reach out to touch the intricate stonework.  Every curve, every stone, every detail whispers tales of a civilization that has long since passed.

You are transported to a time when the Romans ingeniously harnessed nature’s power for the greater good, as you climb to the third level and learn about the aqueduct.

Later standing on the sun drenched shore of the Gardon River listening to the soft splashing of water and occasional bird’s song, you feel a profound sense of connection to ancient history and nature.

Can you imagine how nourishing it would be to relax and reset in breathtaking Provence, France?
While on this retreat, through experiencing calming fields of lavender, quiet olive groves, and awe-inspiring sunsets, you will have time to breathe and ground your energy, so that you gain perspective and remember the simple experiences that truly nourish you.

Wouldn’t it feel fulfilling to slow down, be more present, and to truly enjoy what you are doing?
On this retreat, through mindful movements, body-mind awareness, and the guidance of an experienced instructor, you will practice slowing down and releasing tension, so that you are more relaxed and able to enjoy what you are doing when you are doing it.

How awesome would it be to feel energized and inspired in the second half of your life?
While in Provence, through learning about extraordinary sites and people, immersing yourself in the culture and cuisine, playing pétanque, or playing in the pool, you will get inspired to keep learning and living passionately, so that you rediscover your vitality and enthusiasm.

Your driver turns off the country road then pauses as two wrought iron gates slowly open.  You enter the property that will be your Provencal home away from home for seven peaceful nights and revitalizing days.

You step out on to the crushed stone drive and begin to walk in the direction of the limestone “farmhouse”.  You can feel and hear the stones shifting beneath your feet – it is SO quiet here.

Fuchsia bougainvillea in full bloom happily hugs the farmhouse wall which is bathed in golden light.  The sky is a vibrant cerulean blue.  No wonder famous artists like Vincent Van Gogh and Paul Cezanne were captivated by the south of France.

The swimming pool calls to you; so, you slip off your shoes and step onto the shelf ankle deep in the refreshing water.  You lift your gaze to take it all in…  A playful yellow butterfly flirting with lavender brings a smile to your face… you know in your heart that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

Simplicity meets elegance at Mas Millesime.
Each room is unique; yet, every room features natural fabrics, finishes, and furnishings that invite you to unwind.  Crisp white cotton sheets promise a restful night’s sleep and sweet dreams of the day’s adventures. You’ll wake rested and excited for the day ahead!

Mas Millesime seamlessly blends historic charm with modern comforts, including individually controlled air conditioning and invigorating hot showers.

Upgrade to a two or three bedroom suite if you and your travel companions would like to share a private swimming pool, outdoor dining area, indoor kitchen and living area.

In the heart of Provence, surrounded by lush olive and cypress trees, lies a hidden gem where hosts Charline and Ronald embody the spirit of “joie de vivre” – the joy of living.

Their warmth and hospitality shine through in every detail, from their lovingly restored 18th century farmhouse to the crystal clear swimming pool that invites relaxation; and, from their superb French continental breakfast to the organic olive oil they produce from the trees on their property.

Charline and Ronald’s passion for creating an unforgettable retreat experience filled with joy and connection will definitely inspire you

Here, meals are not just about nourishment, they are a celebration of vibrant colors, enticing aromas, and the exquisite flavors of fresh Provençal herbs and produce. Picture long, leisurely meals enjoyed outdoors, surrounded by good friends and lively conversation that nourishes your body and soul.

Each morning a French continental breakfast prepared with love will greet you… you choose exactly what your heart desires… local fresh fruit and orange juice, homemade granola, creamy yogurt, a variety of breads and croissants, fig and apricot jam, goat cheese from a neighboring farm, and delicious fresh eggs.

Summer evenings begin with an aperitif of chilled rosé to awaken your appetite; then, an “entrée” (starter) of refreshing gazpacho, made with sun-ripened tomatoes, cucumber, and fragrant basil, drizzled with a touch of olive oil.  Your “Plat Principal” includes grilled ratatouille skewers served alongside tender grilled chicken marinated in “herbes de Provence”, all complemented by a side of fluffy couscous tossed with lemon and fresh herbs.

An essential part of any Provençal dining experience is “fromage”, a cheese course, that follows the main dish. Yes, really… creamy goat cheese, camembert, and sharp blue cheese; for example, served with a baguette. YUM!

Finally, imagine a delightful “tarte aux pêches”, a delicate peach tart, baked to perfection and served with a dollop of homemade vanilla crème fraîche. Perhaps accompanied by, a traditional “digestif” like Armagnac, to aid digestion. Good thing we’ll be walking and practicing yoga every day!

If you don’t eat this or that — no worries — we’re happy to accommodate your food preferences.

A haven for artists, writers, and dreamers for centuries, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, exudes history, culture, and artistry.  Its captivating beauty is sure to leave you spellbound.

A local guide will orient us, then you’ll have time to wander the town’s charming cobblestone streets and quaint squares.

You’ll discover a plethora of artisan shops, each one brimming with handcrafted treasures.  From intricate jewelry to fragrant soaps; and, from specialties like truffles to world-class wines, every shop is a treasure trove of Provence’s finest. Take your time to browse and indulge, as the locals are happy to share their knowledge and passion for the region’s artisanal traditions.

On the first of our two full-day tours, our local guide/driver will take us to the iconic Abbey de Sénanque and the must-see “most beautiful” village of Gordes.  We will experience the Luberon region’s beautiful countryside and lavender fields beginning to bloom.

Abbey de Sénanque is a 12th-century Cistercian abbey nestled in a stunning valley.  As we tour the abbey, you’ll be struck by its simple yet majestic beauty, and the sense of serenity that permeates the air.

The picture-perfect village of Gordes, sits high on a cliff where white stone buildings with terracotta roofs decorate the hillside.

Throughout the week, you will have free time to settle into a comfortable chair and lose yourself in a good book, to bask in the sun poolside, to sneak away for a quiet walk along the canal, or to receive a rejuvenating therapeutic massage.

Relaxation and rejuvenation go hand in hand with fun and connection.

After a morning of exploring the wonders of Provence, you’ll have the opportunity to take a refreshing dip in the pool.

“Pétanque & Pastis w/JD” promises to be one of the highlights of our retreat.  Pétanque is the traditional French game of boules; and, the pétanque court is the perfect setting to laugh, connect, and create memories that will last long after the retreat is over.

Immerse yourself in the vibrant local culture and lifestyle at the weekly market in Saint Remy-de-Provence.  Browsing the colorful stalls is a feast for the senses for sure!

In addition to the region’s gorgeous produce, you’ll encounter table clothes and napkins in Provencal patterns, fragrant soaps made from natural ingredients (in a multitude of shapes, colors and sizes), hand crafted pottery, summery clothing, and more.  You’re sure to find the perfect souvenir or gift to take home.

Shopping isn’t REALLY your thing?  No problem!

Wouldn’t it be fascinating to visit the Saint-Paul Asylum and grounds, where Vincent van Gogh was a self-admitted patient from May 1889 to May 1890?  Over the course of that year, he painted about 150 canvases including The Irises, Olive Trees, Hospital at Saint Remy, and The Starry Night.

The immense underground quarries of Les Baux-de-Provence, create a unique environment for a magical immersive sound and light show unlike anything you’ve experienced. Using one hundred video projectors, representations of artistic masterpieces are projected over more than 7,000 sq. meters of the quarry walls, pillars, and floors.

In addition to learning about yourself through practicing yoga daily, you will see mind-blowing sights and hear fascinating nuggets from local guides that will awaken your imagination and fuel your desire to keep learning.

One unique opportunity you will have, is to hear directly from Charline all about her experience caring for their olive trees and producing their small batch organic olive oil.  You will learn about the importance of timing, technique and perseverance in the harvesting process. She will also share a sample of their truly exceptional organic olive oil. (Spoiler Alert: You will never feel the same about your two liter jug of Costco olive oil!)

If you want to dive deeper, then during your free time, journey down the road to sample the oil of several different varieties of olives – each with a really distinct flavor!  Imagine, “Peppery Aglandau with fruity notes dominated by raw artichoke” or “Verdale with an intense aroma of fruit, freshly mown grass, and green apple” or Grossane “offering up rich aromas of butter, sweet almond, and tomato”.

The shop at Moulin du Calanquet also has a dazzling array of specialty products like “Moutarde Truffle Blanche Or” (mustard with white truffle and gold) and “Moutarde Citron Grains De Pivot Blue” (mustard with lemon and blue poppy).  Your tastebuds will thank you!

Les Baux-de-Provence is a medieval village perched high atop a rocky outcrop, with stunning views, ancient ruins, and a fascinating history.  Our guide will take you back in time to the Middle Ages, when Les Baux was a fortified stronghold for the local lords.  The ruined Château-de-Baux, with its remnants of turrets, ramparts, and historic halls, is a testament to the ingenuity and determination of the people who once called it home.  You’ll see reproductions of their weaponry and learn about the role both women and men played to protect the castle.

Our second full day tour will include Pont-du-Gard, the Palace of the Popes in Avignon.

Sharon Wahlfeld

Hi, I’m Sharon, your retreat leader and yoga instructor.

I believe whole heartedly in the transformative power of yoga because nearly three decades of practicing have taught me to be more self-aware, present, confident, peaceful, and resilient in the face of life’s unexpected twists and turns and inevitable ups and downs.

Since becoming a yoga instructor in 2007, I have accumulated thousands of teaching hours; and, have helped countless students to learn the time-tested tools of yoga.  I am motivated by the belief that yoga benefits EVERYONE – all body types, stages of life, all levels of fitness and health.

Leading transformational yoga journeys is a culmination of my passions: teaching gentle yoga that strengthens our body and mind, experiential travel that enriches our life and broadens our perspective, and forming connections that bring more joy to our life.

I can’t wait to share this unique and unforgettable journey, where we will explore the secrets to living vibrantly and aging gracefully with passion and purpose!

JD Bertron

I was born and raised in France, but at age 25 I moved to Chicago for school. I have lived in the U.S. since then.

As a kid, my parents took my sister and me to visit all over France, but I sadly don’t remember much. Over the past five or six years, I have welcomed the opportunity to re-visit France, to enjoy the food and learn the latest idioms. (My sister tells me I now have an American accent when I speak French!)

I started practicing Yoga 10 years ago. It has helped me eliminate hip pain from bad posture, I have regained flexibility and been able to maintain balance. It has also helped me mentally, to focus better and acquire awareness of stress and fatigue, which have contributed generally to confidence and calm.

My role on the retreat will be to coordinate activities and assist with transportation.

I especially look forward to assisting participants who want to immerse themselves in the culture and practice their French language skills.
